Kaidoh pulled away. "What do you want?" "It's your birthday, right? I have something for you." Momoshiro flashed a big dumb grin. "Is this a trick?" "Jeez! Just take it." Momoshiro put something into Kaidoh's hand. It was an orange. Round, smooth, and, well, *orange.* "It's an orange," Kaidoh said. "I kept it all day without eating it." Momoshiro slung his bag over his shoulder. "I'll crush you at practice today." * "This is for you." Inui slid a package across the table. It took a minute for Kaidoh to get through the layers of bag and wrapping and tissue. Inside he found a watch, a sports watch. "It's a heart-rate monitor." Inui took Kaidoh's hand and fastened it around his wrist. Kaidoh blushed and hoped no one in the cafe; could see Inui's fingers brushing his arm. "Thank you, senpai." "Finish your cake," Inui said. * They kissed until the sweetness of the icing was gone. Inui moved his mouth down Kaidoh's jaw, his throat, his shoulder where the buttons of his shirt were open. "Don't leave a mark," Kaidoh said, and felt Inui's tongue against his skin. "Are you staying over on Saturday?" Inui said. Kaidoh put his arms around Inui and pulled him down, kissing him again and again, hands sliding up under his shirt. The monitor went off and scared them both. * Kaidoh put his homework away in his bag. He found the orange at the very bottom. It was heavy in his hand, perfectly ripe and as bright as the reflectors he wore when he ran in the dark. "I'll beat you tomorrow," he said, louder than he meant to, alone in his room. He peeled the orange carefully over a sheet of paper, stripping away the strings of pith. He ate it in sections and licked the juice from his fingers. When he woke in the morning, he could still smell the fragrance in the air. F I N I S Halrloprillalar hal@prillalar.com http://prillalar.com/
